The wait is almost over for Sam Houston women’s soccer fans! This Thursday, August 15th, the Bearkats will open their season with a highly anticipated match against longtime rival Stephen F. Austin at Pritchett Field in Huntsville.

The Bearkats, led by head coach Sonia Curvelo, are eager to start the season on the right foot, and there’s plenty of buzz surrounding this matchup. Among the players to watch is Gabrielle Gipson, a 5-10 sophomore defender from Colleyville who recently signed with Sam Houston. Gipson’s presence on the field will be particularly interesting, as she played as a true freshman for SFA last season, making 15 appearances. Now, she’s suiting up in orange and white, ready to make an impact for the Bearkats against her former team.

With a blend of experience and fresh talent, Coach Curvelo has been working hard to prepare the squad for this important opener. The rivalry with SFA is always intense, and this match promises to deliver all the excitement that fans have come to expect when these two teams face off.

Make sure to come out to Pritchett Field this Thursday to cheer on the Bearkats as they look to secure a season-opening victory against the Ladyjacks. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM—be there to support Sam Houston as they begin their quest for a successful season!
